The Creature
Chapter 23:
previously: we flashbacked to the day Renkle volunteered to join the the hunting party.
and now: we are back in the Wilds as the creature continues to attack the hunting party.
Brann took the brunt of the creature’s strike.
Martin watched as his knees buckled and his back bowed as the force of the beast’s paw broke Brann’s neck, and he was shoved into Renkle. The pair collapsed in a heap in the mud, and the creature bore down on them.
Its weight snapped bones.
Its claws shredded flesh.
Its teeth tore apart muscle.
Then …
Twip!
Twip!
Arrows buzzed through the air, one sprouting from the creatures shoulder.
Another from its jaw.
The beast, muzzle bloodied and eyes a-blaze, turned its attention to Fitcher, who was nocking another arrow.
Twip!
An arrow struck its muzzle.
The creature roared.
Twip!
An arrow imbedded in its throat.
Then it charged at Fitcher.
