I think this is a good idea, and I like it. However, I’m curious—when others post projects like their books on platforms such as Substack, aren’t they concerned about the risk of someone stealing their work and claiming it as their own? I’m asking because I was considering launching my own project here, but I’m worried about potential stealing my work.
Had to mull over this one before responding, but the simple answer: no. Why, for me …
If I was worried about someone stealing one of my ideas, then I’d never have the chance to publish them and share them with the world. Or get them out of my head.
I don’t have the ego to think my ideas are better than anyone else’s or worth stealing.
By posting the story and saving drafts of my revisions, I have the necessary proof that the story is my creation. That I own the intellectual property.
I’m largely doing this for fun.
Everyone I’ve come across on Substack has a wealth of their own ideas. No one needs to steal anyone else’s. Sure, we may influence and inspire each other, but that’s something altogether different.
That’s totally your call—if you feel it’s right for you.
Myself, I am using the idea of serializing this particular story via Substack as motivation to actually get it written. I now need to crank out a chapter every week or two. The pressure is on, but I’m going to have fun with it.
I just wanted to know because I really don’t want to got through the hard work that we would have to do for the copyright things because it’s a pain to do all that
Very good intro to the characters. I love the idea of this Arm cult — intriguing. And hooking us with the bear at the end was great.
Thanks for the feedback—that’s always encouraging.
What a fantastic start. I already feel like I know this band of characters, and I’m invested in wanting to know more! Love it.
Thanks so much for the kind feedback!

So you do think I should make my story on here that’s what you’re saying?

You don’t have to. Just read about Substack’s terms of service.

This looks interesting! It’s not typically the genre I read, but it's well-written as a story :))
Thanks for the feedback!
I was intrigued by the introduction of the cast and the small bits of their backstories before the hunt!
Looking forward to more!
